#52 Angels Watching Over Me by Michael Phillips

Katies life as a pampered, plantation owners daughter was all she had ever known.  Mayme starts out the story.  Her life has been very different. A young Slave girl, she had seen a harder, crueler life.
Both their lives were about to change forever.
First the war came, Katies' Father and Brothers went to it. Her mother had to step into unfamiliar roles to keep the plantation running. Eventually, Katie had to start picking up new tasks too. Eventually, the War came to her.
How these two girls, so different, end up together, working together to save what they have fought for, is an exciting story of bravery, friendship and faith. You will be holding your breath throughout the book as you experience it all along with them.

#51 Three Lives of Tomomi Ishikawa by Benjamin Constable

This is a book different from any one you may have read before. Suicide, a quest, a strange friendship, all these intertwine into a curiously compelling story. Ben Constable and Tomomi Ishikawa are friends. They enjoy hanging out together, talking, but just friends. Then one day Tomomi slides a note under Ben's door. A strange blend of a suicide note and the beginnings of a treasure hunt. Follow along with Ben as he mourns his friend and finally decides to follow the clues to see where they lead, and maybe figure out why his friend killed herself. From Paris to New York and back again, Ben follows the clues, but begins to suspect that things are not what they seem. I won't spoil the end but you certainly aren't expecting it.

#48 Awkward Owl by Shawnda Blake

Awkward Owl was really, really awkward! The more he thought about it, the more awkward he became.  A little girl finds him (after he crashed into a tree, back-side-up and bottom-side-first) she doesn't call him awkward, she just wants to be sure he's OK. A good story about how not to make fun or bully, but to help!
My 11 year old Granddaughter liked it and I think younger kids would too. Sweet illustrations. A nice little book.
