This is a good little starter cookbook if you are just beginning to use quinoa. Some good basic information about the grain, and a number of good, simple recipes. Lots of salads, some soups, a number of breakfast dishes. No pictures, but all in all a good little basic book.
Abigal thought she had it all. A great business, her "Doo Drop-In" Hair Salon, friends and a comfy life. She was single, but liked it that way. The town of Rawston was just like thousands of other Midwestern towns.
Everything rolling along just the same as it had for many many years. Young folks getting married, the annual "Rawston Quilt-O-Rama" was coming up soon. Yup, everything was status quo. Well soon things would change..in a very big way, when a F5 tornado comes to town and suddenly everything changes. Many people die, others lose everything, but strangely, people start to move closer to God. Despite the horror, the sorrow and pain, people begin to see what things, and people, are really important.
As the survivors gather fabric scraps from the debris, a quilt begins to emerge, a quilt built of stories, connections and family.
A wonderful christian based story about when bad things happen to good people.

A cute, well illustrated children's book, in rhyme, that follows young Andrew as he tries to save a historic building named "Noah" from being demolished. We watch as he goes up the chain of command to finally speak to the Mayor on behalf of his friend. When the Mayor agrees that he could save Noah, but only if Andrew can find a useful purpose for the old building. So Andrew comes up with an idea that all his friends support.
Wow! What a stunner, complete with recipes at the beginning of each chapter. If you thought the Housewives of Orange County were complicated, scheming, over sexed...they have nothing on these ladies. Revenge, vengeance, power and position, all are in the mix as we delve into this extended family and friends. A very convoluted tale, worthy of Jackie Collins. If reality shows are your forte, you will be sure to relish this collection of stories. Each intertwined and affecting the others.
We once again find Sam and his friends getting into trouble as young men in Las Vegas. He wakes up after a 21st birthday party with a very large, very real tattoo!!! A wonderful story of young Gay (and straight) men coming of age, taking on responsibilities, and finding out where their paths will take them. His friend Travis is on the outs with his sister over her boyfriend, Richie and Alex are still figuring out what they want to do. From Circus Circus to Caeser's Palace they get into scrapes and find a new path toward each of their individual futures. Sam comes out to his friends and some family, gets his own place and looks at his future life. He finds himself in a job he had never even considered. Sort of an end of an era for this group of guys.
I very much enjoyed tagging along.
Sally was so excited about her Birthday! She could hardly keep from bouncing thinking about all the presents she was going to get. Her Mom was baking cupcakes, and soon it would be time for her party! At the party she gets lots of presents, but her friend Todd gives her a strange one...something that didn't come from a store, something he made himself. Sally is puzzled at first..what weird kind of present doesn't come from a store? Something happens later that makes it clear and Sally learns an important lesson about presents, sometimes the biggest, most expensive presents aren't the ones that make you happy.
A great lesson for kids in our "bigger, Better, Super Size" society".

An interesting book about an abused puppy, genetic engineering, bullies, friendship and a solitary elderly neighbor. It talks about what a "Family" is (including dear friends), about doing the right thing. Set in the English Countryside.
A good chapter book for school age kids with an interest in science and animals.

The Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Piscine Molitor Patel, named after a French swimming pool, grew up in a Zoo in India. One would think that would be enough to make him unique, but there is more, much more.
He survives the sinking of a ship that killed his entire family and most of the zoo animals, he lived for 227 days in the company of a bengal tiger named Richard Parker, discovers a carnivorous island populated by meerkats. Eventually he lands in Mexico. Sounds insane? Pure fiction? Read the book, then you decide. A beautiful, terrible story, a glimpse inside the mind of a truly unique person, richly detailed, you will have difficulty putting it down.
